System Analyst
I am working for CPD as the system analyst of Information System Department. At the beginning, my work includes two parts. One is to lead our team to design and analyze CPD’s network system. We use CISCO Router as network gateway, and Cabletron Switch as internal network switch. The other part is Production system, containing three HP UNIX stations and more than 300 measurement stations. I have got a System Administration of HP UNIX 10.20 version. In October 1999, I successfully upgraded two stations from 9.xx system to 10.20 for Y2K compliance.
Then I was involved in the AS/400 Y2K upgrade project, assisted the suppliers to modify program, because I have the experience of AS/400 when I worked in SSA. Two weeks later, the system got successful upgrade.
In February 1999, I developed Web application system for Headcount control and management. Managers can easily make smart plan for future headcount volume and proportion through Intranet. They also can query headcount history and information for any period, shown by chart and Excel metrix. The back platform consists of one Microsoft SQL 7.0 and one Web server, and the front platform can be any kind of browser. I use ASP and HTML for programming, connecting to ODBC and then to SQL database. This Web system also includes one MAPI application, which can send query result to you safely, because, to some extent, this system is secured. Users who encounter any problem can register in this system and the system will automatically send an email to right IT people. You can enjoy conference chat here, too.
After successful Headcount development, production department asked me to develop another two applications. One is Training Certification System (MSO), another is Cost of Quality Management (COQ). MSO is a multi-positioned manufacturing resource administrating system. It automatically generates certificate report from the course database, listing detailed operation licenses of the operators, sorting by production line and/or by department. At the same time, it administrates the violation information. Everyday, it will send warning message to the supervisors if their subordinates’ operation licenses will expire soon, or the subordinate has violation for 3 times. This web application has distinguished security features, which meets the security requirement of the company. This system receives high appraisal from QA manager, HR manager, IT manager and users.
MSO keeps every operator’s skill and training records, it can automatically send pre-alert mail to production leader & manager of who should get a new test or who has a violation. It can tell manager which key process lacks how many qualified operators as well.
I’m not only DNS administrator of our department, but also became Notes administrator later because of re-organization. I’m the Y2K contingency plan champion as well.
I set up the CTS (Tianjin) Website in year 1999. On this site, there are Headcount and MSO systems, desktop support request forms, PRMS project introduction, computer training center, etc. This site supports PGP certificate security protocol, using RSA encrypt calculation methodology. This kind of work attracts me very much.
At spare time, I installed a Linux system, and set up an Apache Web server and a database named ‘MySQL’ on it. I like Linux.

Beginning from year 1998, I was chosen to participate in Iridium Plan. As you know, Iridium Plan is a global satellite communication plan. It is to place 66 low orbit satellite around the Earth, thus ensure 100% communication coverage. Motorola designs, produces and operates the satellites. My responsibility is to ensure telecommunication, and maintain a circuit between Launch Base and Chandler in the U.S. All Motorola’s launch control data was transferred out through this circuit to assure information security. The whole circuit consists of 56K data and two 4K-voice lines. We mixed those data together by NewBridge equipment. The gateway is a Cisco 2150, and uses Cylink to encrypt the entire circuit. We have another set of equipment for backup. The whole team’s information system, including telephone, email, share server, control data, are also my responsibility. I am the only one Chinese people in this team, I have joined this team for five times (Long March-3, LM-4, LM-5, LM-6, LM-6a) for launch supporting communication, and successful launched six Iridium Satellites on May 2nd ‘98, Aug 20th ‘98, Dec 19th ’98, June 11 ’99. At every launch day, I entered MCCC (Mission Command and Control Center) and was named Communication Coordinator, monitoring communication status during the whole process.
Generally speaking, I work for the Iridium Plan for about 5 months per year. Perfect cooperation and good friendship with all of the team members made me always been chosen every time and enjoy the time I spent in TSLC.

I was responsible for E-mail system maintenance & WAN support. At the very beginning of my employment in Motorola, I setup COMPAQ 5000R Exchange server, it is serving 330 users continuously. This Exchange System became the best in Motorola Tianjin.
At that time, I mainly engaged in Wide Area Network including TEDA & MOS-17. I set up several circuits and then connect them to the network of Human Resources Department, Finance Department and other Sector/Groups. We applied for a DDN from the post office, encrypted by Cylink, through Modem, connected to our CISCO router.
I got CISCO ICRC certificate, and had Cabletron Switch training. On October 1 & 2 1997, we upgraded AGS to CISCO 7507 router, thus improved our performance. We modified parameter of circuit and router according to the demand of our users, ensuring 24hr*365day high quality telecommunications. After that, I organized laying fiber, added NewBridge site machine. The NewBridge was used to provide VoiceLink service. Setting up & maintaining TJ Secure Dial-In server were also my responsibility. I was in charge of analyzing user data. I learned HTML and JavaScript on the time, I setup web server on our Sun host. I experimented using Sun Solaris to manage that data (network and terminal server) and to place it on the intraweb. I succeeded. So we can know which circuit has a high traffic, when has a high traffic, then analyze data (ping time, IP accounting…). We successfully found that one department broadcast intemperately with InocuLan incorrect configuration. After correcting, this department circuit traffic was decreased extremely.
So I maintained our web server for networking management.

I grasped basic knowledge of IBM/AS400 including RPG, DDS, CL, etc. On this basis, I took part in a project, which modifying BPCS financial system of SSA product to make it suitable for China. I modified the Depreciation Part. Another project I engaged in was Software Chinese Conversion. I made Double Byte Modification mainly for DDS files and provided Chinese users with a friendly Chinese interface.
Working in SSA, I got familiar with BPCS software and the basic theory of MRP. I negotiated with Tianjin No.1 Machine Tool Factory on a MRP project, and helped the company apply and implement a MRP system.

For my Graduation Design, I developed independently a hardware-software system for a project called Intelligent System for Data Communications. I also made realization of it. The main purpose of the system was to apply to the telephone fee recording system. The system receives data from telephone exchange’s printer port, calculate, and then store the result to its memory or transfer the result to PC whenever you request. It obviously decreased the burden of the user and increased the reliability of the whole system. Actually, the efficiency was increased by 40% after the parallel process was adopted for the software. The system had wide usage. Connected to different kinds of software, it could execute different tasks. This Graduation Design got the best score of 96 in our Department in Graduation Reply.

During university days, I myself developed a project named Information Receiver, which was financially supported by the company. All parts of the product were completed by myself, including management consideration, hardware & software design, hardware & software realization, etc. The Receiver can receive information promptly from pager broadcast stations and accomplish output to television, computer, or any other special peripherals such as telephone and electric pan. It was once used to display stock market situation. It provides effective tool for compensate information services.
